Default Zealots Fire = Broken

So, I was using zealots fire for a while on my monk, starting from lvl 12 or so.. At level 12 it was dealing 12 Damage out of 26 it was surposed to... Once I leveled, the damage dealt by it was increased by 1 point and whenever I increased my smiting attributes, damage was increased by 1 point too... So I'm a lvl 20 and Zealot's Fire is at 33 Fire Damage... I go up to aatxe and omg it only deals 17... I go out to trolls and 17?!?!? Is it glitched or was it like this always? I've seen zealots fire deal 104 dmg to aatxe long before smiting skills nerf...

Or you could be doing fire damage, which is modified by armour. I suspect aatxes have a truckload of armour.

It is fire damage and not holy damage. Fire damage is mitigated by armor and yes aataxes do have a truckload of armor and then some.

Well I really dunno but when I had a fire nuker, my attacks used to deal full dmg to aatxe (ex. 106 or so from meteor) I forgot the exact values but damage wasnt reduced whatsoever

The 104 you saw was Zealot's damage to a Nightmare.

Well OK, but how will you explain leveling up increasing the damage?

Spell damage only does 100% of listed damage when you're at level 20. Read.

There's a level-based damage mod in the game. The critical hit mod is also based on level in addition to attribute pts. Obviously, increases in attribute points will increase damage as well.

Other common monsters that people use/have used Zealot's Fire on are Griffons, Minotaurs, and Trolls. You'll notice it doesn't do the listed damage on them either. There's nothing wrong with the skill, many monsters simply have elemental resistance to certain elements. It's the same principle as a fire spell such as Fireball only doing 50-ish damage when it's listed to do 119. Now, use Zealot's Fire against an Ice Golem or something similar, and you'll notice the damage going well above the listed amount.
Hope this helps to further clarify it.

Then your claim of said damage done to said monsters "6 months ago" has no relevance at all to your comparisons.
